Lord Noel Gets To Break Some Waves

Whatto! Water lovers!!...........

Today I'd like to talk about our recent break in Cornwall.............

One cannot go all that way...............

without at least going to visit Britain's Top Beach 'Mecca' for Surfers...............

'Fistral Beach'!!..........

It's on the Northern Coast...............

near Newquay.................

and the water seemed warmer here than on the South Coast for some reason..............

........it could have been the full length wet suits I suppose..............

We started orf having to walk from one end of the beach to the other..............

ie. from the surfing school to where the best waves are..........

It's a lovely way to warm up!............

Especially when you are carrying two full-sized surf boards!!

Our lovely windswept instructress................
soon had us on the boards doing 'chicken wings'.......
As the waves took us a long way from the breakers.............
right onto the beach!
Perfect (as you might expect) - for surfing!............
There were lots of 'experts' about.................
showing off their skills on the bigger waves....

We were in the water for three hours!

I was surprised about that because the previous day on the South side of the Peninsular...........

I'd only managed about forty minutes before I'd become a block of ice!!........

Surfing is great fun........
and it's also totally exhausting!!
Just beware of one small thing....
one VERY small thing...

It's called the Weever fish!
About the size of your finger...
and it hides in the sand.... minding it's own business....
until one stands on it....which is exactly what I inadvertently did!..

You see on this little chaps back................
are some spikes..............
and when they feel the pressure down onto them of ones foot..............
the spines that are sticking upwards act as a defence mechanism.......
and shoot venom into anything they've managed to pierce...........
OUCH!!.............. indeed!!!
My big toe on the occasion!........... Wallop!!

But there's really nothing you can do about a hidden fish in sand is there?
The antidote is simple enough.................
just place the affected area into a bowl of really really hot water............

The venom is apparently a simple structure that breaks down in hot water...........
...but it doesn't half hurt like BLAZES until the water takes affect!!
Tallyho!................... and 'Take Care out there What?!'!!
Best wishes - Lord Noel
