Lord Noel Takes Over Sherringham!

Whatto! Peeps...

Yesterday was a good day....
...Nay!...a great day....

As a large group of like minded individuals....
...met up by the sea...with me!

 The weather was glorious....
...and that just made all the vivid colours even more vibrant...

...here's a rare view of The Witchmen...
...with their distinctive raggedy costumes and blacked out faces...

...in fact all around us was an amazing mix of weird and wonderful costumes....
...assembled in an out of the way car park...

...even the Town crier was there to shout at us...

 ...groups slowly assembling into teams...
....ready for the signal...
...otherwise known as the 'Off'...

 ...men and women alike....
...with a single intent in mind...

...and then, at the prearranged time...
...we all descended 'en masse' to take over the sleepy coastal town of Sherringham...

...even the High street was closed off to traffic for us..

...and the town's eight pubs....
...were given groups of Morris Dancers...
...who each took turns to do their dances outside in the sunshine...
We started off outside the Lobster....
...after which the 'Lobster Potty festival' is named.

 This is Larry the Lobster...
...he was an unexpected result of a strange genetic experiment in the 1980's...
...and landlord of the pub until 1997 when, after a heavy night on real ale...
... he fell into the sea and drowned...
His customers had him stuffed and placed directly outside the pub he loved so much...
...as a mark of respect.

All day long the streets were alive with the sound of wafting handkerchiefs..
....and of course...Bells!

 ...and violins...
...and accordions and melodeons...

Teams travelled here from all over the country....
...each bringing with them their own distinctive style of dancing...
These are the 'Garland Ladies'..
...and some dancers had wooden clogs on that thumped out a beat on the tarmac...

...there were the traditional Morris Dancers with flowers in their hats...
......some from Leeds, Northampton and Bury St Edmunds...

...and the distinctly edgey 'Pirate Punks' from Kent.
It was brilllllllll!

Tallyho!

Best Wishes - Lord Noel
